Microsoft Planner

planner_logoMicrosoft has taken advantage of the Kanban board which is widely used by many project managers and developed Microsoft Planner.

A plan can be created for a Modern SharePoint Team Site from the Homepage by selecting New > Plan.

There are currently two main ways to visualize your plan.

Board

This is the Kanban board which is a visualization tool that enables you to plan, assign, and manage your tasks with an easy drag and drop feature.

Each Bucket (Column of Tasks) is customizable with color coded labels and titles.

Chart

Charts allow you to visually breakdown the progress of your tasks with donut and line graphs. Remember a “Red” task does not mean a negative outcome, it is an identifier to remind the Project manager and team to get the schedule back on track.

  • Green – Complete
  • Grey – Not Started
  • Blue – In progress
  • Red – Late

Planner Web Part

In a Modern SharePoint Site there is a new Planner web part. This web part can be configured by selecting the Plan and a Display.

With the Planner web part you can display the entire Kanban board or entire Chart. Also you can display the Status Chart, Member Chart, and Bucket Chart separately.
